DIY Totoro Halloween Costume Tutorial

DIY Totoro Halloween Costume Tutorial

Happy Halloween everyone!! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love dressing up and DIYing, and I love seeing other peoples' creativity! It seems as if more and more people are choosing to make their own costumes every year, and I love it. I've got a few fun Halloween costume tutorials up on the blog: Medusa & Russell from UP!

I love Totoro! My Neighbor Totoro is a Japanese animated fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Totoro is a friendly forest spirit. There are actually 3 Totoros in the movie, but I love O Totoro, the largest one. He is one of my favorite characters and I thought he'd make the perfect Halloween costume since he is so recognizable and cute. Halloween taps into my past a bit - I actually have a degree in Fashion Design! So this project was super fun for me...drafting patterns can actually be fun when the outcome is such a cute outfit. Use this tutorial to get inspired - you can use the same techniques on another piece of clothing such as a grey pullover hoodie or onesie :) Let's get crafting!

Pumpkin French Toast

Pumpkin French Toast

#PSL... not Pumpkin Spice Latte, but Pumpkin Spice Life. Are you about it? I personally don't drink coffee but tend to get a kick out of how the food industry rolls out countless Fall twists on our favorite foods; simply by making a Pumpkin Spice version. I decided to give in a little this year, and experiment with pumpkin! I love Pumpkin Pie... the ginormous $5 Pumpkin Pie from Costco is one of my favorite things about the holidays. Adding pumpkin puree and a few spices to a classic French Toast recipe is an easy way to get in the holiday spirit. I love the twist on simple French Toast. The spices are so warming and cozy, and the pumpkin flavor compliments the custard so well! Let's get cookin :)

DIY Medusa Halloween Costume

DIY Medusa Halloween Costume

Happy Halloween! I love that Halloween landed on a Friday this year! Plenty of parties to go to all weekend. This year I wanted to do a really fun DIY costume that didn’t take too much effort. I have always loved the powerful glare of Medusa’s stare. As a kid I loved learning about mythology and Medusa was definitely one of my favorites. Sexy, powerful, and iconic.

DIY Russell from UP! Halloween Costume

DIY Russell from UP! Halloween Costume

Halloween is such a fun holiday - filled with DIY possibilities: costumes, decorations, and spooky treats. While I’m working on putting this year’s costume together, I thought I’d share one of my favorite DIY costumes!
In 2012, I created a Russell from the movie UP! costume! Russell is one of my favorite Pixar characters, and his outfit is soo cute for Halloween. His outfit has a ton of details, but you don’t need to nail every single item to get the overall idea! :) It’s a fairly intensive process, but well worth it! I wish I had shot each step like I do for my recipes, but who would have thought I’d have a blog some day? :) Check out my steps for creating a custom Russell Halloween Costume below:

Ridiculously Easy Black & Orange Marbled Cake

Ridiculously Easy Black & Orange Marbled Cake

It’s #OrangeOctober, my favorite month of the year. October brings the start of the fall holidays, colder weather, Halloween, and my birthday as well! Our #SFGiants have made it to the #NLCS and San Francisco is lit up in orange. It’s a beautiful thing. #EvenYear

A few weeks ago I started to rack my brain for fun #Halloween tutorials to do, since it’s one of the funnest DIY holidays of the year. However, I realized that I’m not really into spooky, gross looking treats. I love the creativity of Halloween, and wanted to come up with a fun, simple, and even…elegant dish for this ghouly holiday.
