Breakfast Yogurt Bowls

Breakfast Yogurt Bowls

Aren't these bowls awesome?! :) One of my favorite finds while living in Hong Kong has been these one-off pop-up dish ware shops. The turnover rate of businesses in HK is crazy - so much changes in an instant. It's not unusual to see an entire store of dish ware one day, and completely gone the next. Vendors open up shop where they can, and when you come across them, they are goldmines for stylish dishes! My heaven :)

I like to start every morning with a bowl of yogurt and fresh fruit. It's a really satisfying way to get the day going. Yogurt has tons of health benefits, including a hefty dose of animal protein, calcium, vitamin B-2, B-12, potassium, and magnesium. Whenever you hear about yogurt, you hear about probiotics. Probiotics are friendly bacteria that are naturally present in the digestive system. Eating yogurt regularly helps to regulate the digestive system, and making yogurt bowls at home is a really great way to cut down on unnecessary sugar that can come with pre-made fruit-on-the-bottom yogurt cups. Plus, they're simple to make, since you can use whatever you've got at home! Use your favorite seasonal fruit and granola in a hurry, or add in fun twists like toasted coconut, Nutiva chia seeds, maca powder, or other nutritional boosts. There's not much to this recipe - I'm here to give you some inspiration (and food porn!) Let's get eating!

What You Need:

  • Your favorite brand of plain or Greek yogurt
  • Seasonal fruit
  • Granola (homemade, or my favorite Nature's Path Pumpkin Flax Granola)

Other Topping Ideas:

  • Toasted coconut
  • Maca powder
  • Protein powder
  • Flax, hemp, chia, sunflower, pumpkin seeds (All great Super Seeds!)
  • Organic raw honey
  • Organic Agave

What To Do:

  • This 'recipe' is simple! Spoon some plain yogurt into your fav bowl and top it with your favorite fruit. Add some granola for crunch, and feel free to add on whatever else you like! Have fun with all the beautiful colors, shapes, and textures that fresh fruit provide! We eat with our eyes first :)
To cut a dragonfruit, slice the fruit in half length-wise, and use a spoon to scoop out the flesh of each halve (just like you would for an avocado). Then slice or dice up the gorgeous fruit!

I love eating out of bowls, there's something so comforting and homey about it! Yogurt Bowls are so easy and delicious - use plain yogurt as a canvas for whatever fruit is ripe and in season. Fresh mango, tart kiwi, sweet strawberries, or ripe berries are perfect toppings. This is a quick and simple breakfast that gives a nutritional boost and keeps it light so you can get your day going. Have fun with it! What are your favorite yogurt toppings? xoxo
